Abdominal Cerebrospinal Fluid Pseudocyst—A Rare Complication of Ventriculoperitoneal Shunt

چکیده
An abdominal cerebrospinal fluid pseudocyst is a rare complication of ventriculoperitoneal shunt. Several theories have been suggested to explain its occurrence. The main symptoms are painful distension and vomiting, on examination, as ultrasound computed tomography confirm diagnosis. treatment involves drainage associated with drain relocation resection the pseudocyst’s wall. We report two patients diagnosed this condition who underwent surgical treatment. first patient had an unremarkable 12-month follow-up, while second died seventh postoperative day due intravascular disseminated coagulation. In these patients, cause has not identified; however, infection cannot be ruled out.

Cerebrospinal fluid ascites: a complication of a ventriculoperitoneal shunt.
A 1 year old Caucasian male born with an omphalocoele, malrotation of the large bowel, and Ladd's bands developed an E. coli wound infection and subsequent meningitis-ventriculitis which responded to antibiotic therapy. Aqueductal stenosis and obstructive hydrocephalus initially was treated with a ventriculoperitoneal shunt. After a routine diphtheria-pertussis-tetanus immunization, the child d...

We report a case of ventriculoperitoneal (VP) shunt infection in a 3-year-old boy caused by the food-borne pathogen Listeria monocytogenes, subsequent to acute peritonitis. This unusual presentation of central nervous system (CNS) listeriosis underlines the ability of the bacteria to form and survive within biofilms on indwelling medical devices. Bacterial persistence may lead to treatment fail...
متن کاملSmall bowel perforation: a rare complication of ventriculoperitoneal shunt placement.
Small bowel perforation is a rare complication of ventriculoperitoneal (VP) shunt placement. When seen, it most commonly affects the stomach or colon. We describe a case and image findings of an 8-year-old female who presented with sepsis and erosion of the VP shunt into the small bowel. The imaging findings were confirmed surgically. We also provide an overview of the current literature discus...
متن کاملUnusual complication of ventriculoperitoneal shunt
Ventriculoperitoneal shunt (VPS) is the conventional method of managing hydrocephalus until recently that endoscopic third ventriculostomy is becoming popular. The major disadvantage of VPS is the fact that it constitutes a foreign body and prone to complications such as mechanical blockage, shunt infection, shunt migration and rarely shunt protrusion. Shunt extrusion through the vagina and anu...
متن کاملAbdominal cerebrospinal fluid pseudocyst occurring 21 years after ventriculoperitoneal shunt placement: a case report
BACKGROUND Ventriculoperitoneal shunt (VPS) placement is an established procedure for the treatment of hydrocephalus of diverse etiologies in children and adults. Abdominal cerebrospinal fluid pseudocyst, which is potentially life threatening, is a rare complication and usually occurs during childhood. However, with increasing longevity following successful treatment, it can also occur in adult...
